Moving Nevada Forward with High-Quality Apprenticeships

UNLV College of Education’s NV|Forward Initiative houses the single largest university-based apprenticeship effort in the nation, facilitating on-the-job learning through innovative preparation and development for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Broadening access to higher education and training

Hybrid and remote programming is offered across the state at little-to-no out-of-pocket cost to students while they continue to earn a paycheck

Growing our own community-centered workforce

Our approach builds on the work of practitioners already serving Nevada’s communities, fostering their continued growth and development in the workforce

Creating opportunities for early career exploration

Pre-apprenticeship programs offer youth opportunities to discover their interests, develop skills, and make informed decisions about their future paths

Building and sustaining a continuous network of support

Our apprenticeship model ensures continuous learning and support through mentorship, resource development, and ongoing professional growth

Our Priorities

Workforce Development

With the state apprenticeship model, students work full-time and earn a paycheck while while completing their degree.

Onboarding & Orientation

We offer intentional onboarding and orientation to ensure students’ smooth transition and integration into the academic community.

Educator Recruitment

We intentionally recruit students who systematically experience barriers to higher education.

Student Support

We offer “concierge services” and “success coaching” aimed at reducing student engagement with structures that impede success.

Program Flexibility

We use hybrid and immersive technologies to support all Nevadans’ access to teacher preparation programs.

Continuous Learning & Support

We deliver community-embedded professional development and providing 3 years of systematic post-program support.

Eliminating Cost Barriers

We remove financial barriers for students toward a “zero out-of-pocket cost” educational experience while students continue to earn a paycheck.
