Global Education & Mental Health Research Fellowship

Building “Glocal” Leaders

The Global Education & Mental Health Research Fellowship is a flexible, non-credit initiative funded by the Nevada Institute on Teaching & Educator Preparation (NITEP), to help graduate students and early career researchers develop applied research skills across the education and mental health spectrum.

Using a “glocal” (global-local) approach, participants work on real-world research projects that address pressing global educational challenges of today, but experienced and manifested locally. This program will provide a platform for fellows to study those issues across contexts and is intended to support the development of globally aware and culturally responsive researchers.

Students have the opportunity to participate fully online or in an in-person global research capstone experience via an international site visit.

A Global Partnership

The UNLV College of Education collaborates with international universities, including foundational partnerships with the School of Teacher Education at National Taiwan Normal University (Taiwan) and the English Language Education Division at the University of Wuppertal (Germany).

Today’s education and mental health landscape demands culturally responsive researchers equipped to tackle interconnected challenges—from post-pandemic learning recovery and workforce shortages to systemic inequities—and this program prepares graduate students and early-career scholars with the skills, experience, and credentials to do so, culminating in tangible research outputs and a certificate that formally recognizes their expertise.

Fellowship Program snapshot

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Doctoral Students (UNLV) or advanced masters students (International Partners)

UNLV students enrolled in doctoral-level studies  or NTNU/University of Wuppertal students enrolled in advanced master’s-level studies are eligible to apply.

Completed at least the first year of coursework

Students must have completed at least the first year of program coursework in order to apply.

Interest in education and/or mental health advancement

Students currently pursuing studies focused on improving learning environments, advancing pedagogical research, or addressing mental health challenges and wellness are eligible to apply.

Priority applications are due May 25, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
Programming begins on August 24, 2026 and runs through May 2027.
