About the Pathway

For the Boys & Girls Club pathway, fellows volunteered one hour a week at the Boys & Girls Club. During this hour, Fellows would engage with youths at the club. A prominent part of volunteering at Boys & Girls Club was the “Power Hour.” The Power Hour was designed to help club members achieve academic success. Homework help, tutoring, and learning activities were all provide during Power Hour. Fellows were able to form relationships with some club member because of their consistency and commitment to volunteering. Fellows engaged in 140+ hours of Power Hour support!

Fellow Reflections

“These activities have taught me a lot about dedication and the importance of engagement. Attending the BnG club every week has shown me that kids really do recognize who shows up for them.”

“Much like my academic side, my personal growth has been with adaptability. It feels the Boys and Girls club, as well as the CEP work has increased by ability to conduct research and carry out tasks. I’m excited to see how my development continues.”

“This month, I really felt more comfortable and confident with my role at the B&G Club. I am enjoying getting to know the kids better as well as getting to lead group activities.”

This CEP was made possible thanks to community partnerships as well as generous funding from the Nevada Department of Education to support the Nevada Institute on Educator Preparation (NITEP) and the Nevada Institute on Educator Preparation, Retention, & Research (NIEPRR).
